One of Hollywood's first and most famous sex icons, Marilyn Monroe was a gifted actress who started her career as a model before breaking into the film industry. She was the product of a dysfunctional family and was even unaware of who her biological father was. She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson and spent the majority of her childhood in foster homes because her mother was unable to care for her daughter alone due to mental instability. The little girl had a difficult upbringing characterised by abuse and apathy as a result of which she eventually developed a number of mental illnesses.

She began modeling as a young woman for The Blue Book Modeling Agency, and because to her stunning beauty and grace, she quickly became a highly successful model. She eventually transitioned to acting in movies, beginning with little roles before landing bigger ones. Through her appearances in the 'Playboy' magazine sans clothing, she quickly acquired the reputation of a sex symbol. Gladys Pearl Baker welcomed her into the world as Norma Jeane Mortenson. She didn't know who her biological father was, so she made up a story about him to entertain herself. Clarke Gable was a famous actor in Hollywood.

Because of her mother's mental instability, the young Norma was placed in foster care. She was given into the care of Grace, a friend of her mother's who persuaded her she would one day be a movie star and took her to see movies.

Later, Norma was sent to an orphanage and many foster families. She suffered sexual abuse and neglect in several of the foster homes.

She was only 15 or 16 years old when she wed James Dougherty. When her husband joined the Merchant Marine during World War II, she moved in with his mother.

She got married three times, and each of them ended in divorce. She married James Dougherty as her first spouse while she was just a teenager. Later, she and baseball player Joe DiMaggio eloped. Over the course of her latter years, she battled a number of mental ailments and alcoholism. On 5 August 1962, her psychiatrist Ralph Greenson discovered her body at home. Her death was ruled to be "probable suicide" caused by a drug overdose.

While her husband was serving in the military, she began working for The Blue Book Modeling Agency. She made multiple magazine covers and had blonde hair dye applied to her black hair. She developed into a highly successful model and caught the attention of 20th Century Fox executive Ben Lyon, who extended her an offer for a six-month contract.

Lyon suggested her take the name Marilyn Monroe, which she did. The 1947 film "Dangerous Years" featured her in her debut part with a credit as a waitress. Over the ensuing years, she kept acting in little parts without seeing any success.

The globe was roused by this awful news. On the night of August 4–5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe was discovered dead, holding a phone. She was discovered deceased at her Los Angeles home. In addition to the fourteen empty pharmaceutical packs on the nightstand, police officers discovered an empty sleeping pill pack next to the bed. Before her passing, the actress didn't leave any letters or messages. After conducting an autopsy on Monroe's remains, Dr. Tsunetomi Noguchi declared that acute barbiturate intoxication was the cause of death.

8 mg of chloral hydrate, 4.5 mg of pentobarbital (Nembutal), and an additional 13 mg of pentobarbital were discovered in her blood and liver, respectively.

Medical professionals and law enforcement officials looked into various causes of death for Monroe, such as homicide. However, they were unable to locate any proof, therefore the account of suicide was accepted as fact.

The suicide version of Marilyn Monroe's death, which sparked the so-called Werther effect, was immediately discussed in the American press upon her passing. As a result, several Americans have followed her lead and poisoned themselves to death.

On August 8, 1962, Marilyn Monroe was laid to rest in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
